Reddit’s mobile apps are so popular with its users that it’s introducing native promoted posts, to help advertisers tap into the massive mobile audience. The move was announced through an email from the Reddit team to its advertisers, and states the mobile ads will work in the same way as its desktop ads.
How large is Reddit’s mobile audience? The company says it has 330 million monthly active users, and 80% of them never visit the desktop site, highlighting the need to monetise on mobile devices. Additionally, these users spend 30% more time browsing Reddit each day than those on the desktop site.
Reddit’s promoted posts work like any other thread on the site, and for the first time, users will be able to upvote, downvote, and comment on promoted posts. The ads will first arrive on Apple’s iOS app, starting March 19, and the Android app will follow in the near future.
