App tracking platform for developers and publishers, AppFigures, has kept a close watch on the numbers ever since the Apple TV App Store launched in October 2015. Now, the company has released its findings, highlighting the number of apps, categories and monetisation across the store.
The Apple TV App Store now has 2,624 apps available. AppFigures predicts the store to continue strong growth and offer 10,000 apps by early 2016.
Apple TV apps have grown significantly across November 2015
Game apps make up the largest percentage of apps at 38% and 1,002 apps in the store. Entertainment apps follow in second place, with less than half of the number of apps compared to the games category.
Games lead TV apps categories
However, despite the strong presence of gaming apps across the store, they’re not the most downloaded category. The research finds that the majority of consumers (28%) are downloading entertainment apps. Games follow at 8% and news at 5%. Over time, the games category could grow, but right now, consumers are using their TV devices predominantly to watch shows and other content.
Consumers want entertainment apps
Over half of the apps in the TV App Store are free, but 39% are paid apps. AppFigures says that this is due to the lack of advertising options, leaving developers with limited options when it comes to monetising their apps. 61% of all apps are free.
39% of apps are paid
Of the apps which are paid, 480 cost $0.99. The majority of paid apps cost $2.99.
