Adam Mosseri has been announced as the successor to Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger, who resigned from the company at the end of September. Mosseri will have the title Head of Instagram, and has previously worked at Facebook, where among other positions, managed the News Feed program.

Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger wrote in a blog post:

“We are thrilled to hand over the reins to a product leader with a strong design background and a focus on craft and simplicity — as well as a deep understanding of the importance of community. These are the values and principles that have been essential to us at Instagram since the day we started, and we’re excited for Adam to carry them forward.”

While Mosseri will oversee the business, he will also recruit a new executive team, which will include a new head of operations, head of product, and a head of engineering. While this suggests Facebook is taking the opportunity for a clean sweep at Instagram, Systrom and Kreiger say they believe Mosseri will keep the community, “front and center.”

Adam Mosseri said in an Instagram post:

“I’m humbled and excited about the opportunity to now lead the Instagram team. I want to thank them for trusting me to carry forward the values that they have established. I will do my best to make them, the team, and the Instagram community proud.”
