Quixey, the mobile advertising start-up, has announced Mark Lazar as its new CEO to replace Tomer Kagan, who will refocus on the firm’s technology as Chief Strategy Officer.
The company delivers in-app advertising through its native Deep View Cards. Ads are curated and can be delivered in-web, social feeds and apps.
Quixey provides a range of in-app and in-web mobile advertising solutions
Quixey launched in 2009 to provide a search engine for mobile apps. In order to justify its $600m evaluation, the company then shifted focus to in-app advertising.
Three years on and the company was doing well, raising $24m from Maynard Webb among others in 2012. In 2015, Quixey added another round of $60m led Alibaba. However, it has since missed targets in 2015 and lost its COO and CTO, according to Recode.
Now, it aims to step up efforts and recently also promoted Rajat Mukherjee, formerly of Google and Yahoo, as its new CTO.
However, an employee said on Glassdoor:

“Quixey lacks focus. We’re trying to do a million things at once.”

As a start-up that began in deep-linking, the firm is hitting road blocks from all sides, led by Google and other behemoths offering similar services. It remains to be seen if the company can establish a meaningful presence in China.
