IBM and Vencore launch the First Responder App Challenge

IBM and Vencore have launched the First Responder App Challenge, where developers are asked to come up with specially designed analytical apps for emergency services, using IBM’s Bluemix cloud platform. Vencore works with the U.S. government on information software, engineering and analytics.

The competition opened on November 16 and runs until December 14, and registrations close on December 11. Apps need to help first responders meet currently unmet needs, a complete list of which will be provided upon registration. Examples provided include GPS tracking systems, easier access to key information, and improving emergency call services.

A grand prize of $5,000 will be awarded to the the app which gets the highest score from a team of judges, while GoPro cameras will be given to a selection of Best App winners. The competition is open to developers and university students aged 18 or over, and a U.S resident, either individually or as part of a team or organization.
