Do you have the Parse migration blues? The recent announcement of Facebook’s closure of Parse on January 26, 2016 has turned thousands of developer’s lives upside down. According to a recent article on “The Loop”, Facebook pulled the plug on an astounding 600,000 apps leaving thousands of developers searching for a new mobile analytics and engagement platform alternative.
For readers who are not familiar with Parse, the company produced back-end tools to help mobile developers store data in the cloud, manage registration logins, push notifications, social networking integration and other essentials for mobile apps. In 2013, Fast Company named Parse one of the top 50 most innovative companies that eventually led Facebook to acquire them for $85 million.
To help developers with a smooth transition, Parse has released a database migration tool that will allow developer’s to migrate from their Parse app to any MongoDB database. During the migration, the Parse API will continue to operate as usual based on the new database, so this can happen without any downtime. Second, they have released an open source Parse Server, which allows developers to run most of the Parse API from their own Node.js server. Once the data has been transferred to the new database, the Parse Server will allow your application to continue running without any major changes in the client-side code. For more details, developers can check out Parse’s migration guide here.
What about other mobile analytic platform alternatives? The good news is CleverTap is one of the companies that have come up with an easy transition for developers in our Parse Migration Guide.
CleverTap has released a complete solution, including an updated mobile SDK, which makes moving from Parse simple and seamless. Now developers can easily migrate their Parse installations by using CleverTap’s import utility so all Parse Channels will be preserved and previous Push campaigns will automatically work.
