Google has rolled out a limited test phase of its Promoted Places ads for the Google Map app on Android.

The holiday season means that smartphone owners are likely to use their devices to find and purchase presents and home décor products. According to Google, 70% of smartphone users who purchase in-store first perform a mobile search to find relevant information about a product. In addition, one out of four also use a map through their web browser or app before making a purchase.
With Promoted Places, brands can offer special deals and make announcements via Google Maps to drive foot traffic to their stores.
Google says the new advertising expansion offers seamless integration with the browsing experience. Places of interest are marked with icons on a map to allow better orientation for users.
Indeed, this has the potential to help businesses grow awareness for stores.
When a user clicks on a brand logo, relevant promotions pop up. In addition, consumers can look at a store’s place page to view opening hours and get directions.
