Google will sell audiobooks through the Google Play Store. A banner has appeared for some users on both mobile and the web version of Google’s online shopping space, preparing us for the launch; but the service has yet to be made available.

Additionally, a teardown of the next major version of the Google Play Store app also reveals several references to audiobooks. It’s noted the feature didn’t appear to be ready for launch, and also the lack of a dedicated app to playback audiobooks.

It appears Google will make audiobooks a separate category in the Play Store, alongside ebooks, plus magazines and other written content under the Newsstand section. Audiobooks are already available in the store, but not in an organized way.
