Google has updated Google Maps with new features designed for commuters, which provide a greater degree of information, and fast new ways of using music playback apps.

A new commute tab understands your journey to work each day and will assess traffic to provide recommended or alternative routes, then provide notifications about delays in real-time on the way.

Helpfully, Google Maps now watches over commutes that use multiple forms of transport, and estimates times based on traffic and any public transport delays. This is due to Maps having live information from transit systems in 80 global regions. In selected cities, Google Maps will even show how full buses and trains are before you get to the stop.

Finally, Google Play Music, Spotify, and Apple Music controls are built into Maps, so there’s no need to swap apps to change the song. The Google Maps update is available for Android and iOS devices now.
