South Korean mobile app monetisation firm Buzzvil has just acquired Slidejoy, the mobile advertising company out of New York for an undisclosed sum.
Both companies enable Android smartphone users to be rewarded for viewing adverts on their lock-screen.
Buzzvil offers two product options for advertisers – the BuzzScreen, which is an SDK for lock-screen advertising campaigns, as well as HoneyScreen, the company’s consumer app for rewarded ads.
Similarly, Slidejoy provides an app featuring rewarded ads. Users can earn as much as $6 per month and the company has been working with some large brands including retailer Macy’s, Lyft, Clash of Clans, Toyota and Yahoo.
As part of the deal, the two companies will be combined. Slidejoy’s CEO and Co-Founder Robert Seo will serve as CEO for Buzzvil in the US. Together, the new entity could deliver as many as four billion impressions every month.
The move is further part of Slidejoy’s plans to expand internationally. The company says that the acquisition will enable it to tap into machine learning in combination with AI systems.
Though rewarded ads on lock-screens have received variable reviews among consumers, the advertising model has seen great success in Asia.
