Apple has launched a new iPad Pro range, with two new tablets in the line-up, each with a bigger screen, rounded corners, and smaller bezels. To help app developers quickly design apps for the new screens, Apple has released a pair of instructional videos on the task.
Notable changes that developers need to remember is the iPad Pro does not have a Home button, so it’s important to remember where the Home indicator will appear, just like on the iPhone X.
The aspect ratio has also been changed for the iPad, with the old iPad’s having a 4:3 ratio, while the new 11-inch iPad Pro’s ratio is slightly wider. Apps will need to accommodate both screen ratios to look their best. Apple also goes into detail about screen layout, and how this will impact multi-tasking mode.
A second video talks about integrating the new second generation Apple Pencil, which has new gestures to add to apps. There are four different user settings for the double tap, including an off setting, which Apple says should ensure the gesture does absolutely nothing in any app.
You can watch the videos on Apple’s developer page here. The new iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch tablets are available to pre-order now, and will be released on November 7.
